General Nash Home and School Meeting Minutes

April 9, 2015

March minutes were approved

Treasurer's Report :

Spring fundraiser was a success - exceeded last year's funds. Yankee Candle pickup is likely for Tuesday, online order get shipped to home, free shipping on orders over $50. Orders can be placed until end of school year.

Brain pop, Miss Catto is working to form partnership with other schools and negotiate a contract with Brain Pop.

Positions are always open - other people can run for positions. Voting will take place at next meeting.

Principle report:

PSSA Assessments

First four days are ELA, writing portion is combined into the assessments for 3-6

All assessments will be started on Mondays.

Within the school day, the time spent on assessment varies depending on the type of assessment, can be between 65-85 minutes. Children can request breaks. Nash policy is that cell phone needs to be kept in the school bags. Ask for devices to be left at home.

School teachers and start are working to have the students feels comfortable.

Grades 3 and 4 take tests in the morning at start of day. 9 o'clock-11 o'clock, if students need more time they can be taken to a quiet room

Rest of the day is instructional time for the students.

6th grade will have their special first then take assessments

Special and music lessons, including band, continue to be held.

Literacy Festival

This year the night is an integration of literacy night, art fair and book fair with list of summer book for the parents. Mrs. Stephenson is working on agenda for the night.

Olympic Day

Will be doing pre-registration, classroom volunteers are likely to be grandfathered in and volunteers with be cleared through raptor system with bands

Mr. Martiello is looking at the nationality of students and look at the flags that are used to support a cohesion of the intent of the day and make-up of the school. This will including looking at the different flag which are used.

Family Survey

Will include questions to gather information on who is using different software supports at home.

North Penn you-tube channel from the board meeting on March 10th has information about different software programs that are used at school

Parent suggested it would be nice to have a list about what sites could be used at home and then to also have the links easily accessible for family

Recognition assembly moved to second to last day of school with lip sync. 6th grade farewell on 9th and picnic on the Friday before.

Teacher Rep - Mrs. Ciaola

Sixth grade career day is coming up on May 18th. There is still a need for presenters, there is a goal for 5-6 presenters per day. Presenters need clearances. Sixth grade pays for lunch and snacks.

Short discussion on clearances. Volunteers are needed to be cleared through district

Quakertown is a fingerprint hub, open to the public Mon-Thursday

CJ Eagle Project

Nash graduate would like to rehabilitate the peace garden. Previously had plants from around the world but proposed plants will be more local and be easier to maintain.

Listed proposed plants, works will take place from end of April and through May

CJ has met with facilitates and has a plan for how to discard existing plants. He may need donation from home and school, CJ has contacted nurseries for donations.
