There are two new teachers at Nash this year: Lauren Eagan will be the Reading Support teacher and Jason Melchior will be the new fourth grade teacher. There was an update to the school's Wifi system over the summer. Nash was one of the first buildings cleaned this summer and the fire alarm system was repaired. A new sidewalk is in the process of being installed at the front of the school; this work is scheduled to be completed before the start of the school year. Home Access Center will open tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. so families can check their classroom assignments. New Family Orientation will be on Thursday, August 25 and the Mr. Winkle invited not only the new students, but returning students can also attend so they can see where their new classrooms are located. The building will be open until 8:00 p.m. that evening.

  • School Store

  • This will be new this year. Other schools in NP are already doing this and we are looking at their programs to give us some ideas of how we can run this for our students.

  • Mentor Program
We would like to find a way to pair up families that are new to Nash with families who have been here so that there can be sharing of Nash information throughout the year as families may have questions. This could also work for families with children moving into a new grade level where they may have questions about specific grade levels. Look for more information coming out about this soon!

  • Welcome Picnic
Scheduled for Friday, September 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and there will be lots for our Nash families to do: DJ Mike Trotter will be here providing music and games; there will be pizza, chips, and drinks; Kindness Rocks for the kids to paint and write positive messages on; Photo booth; Name tags with color-coded stickers by grade level; and an information table to introduce families to all of the great activities for the school year.

  • "Kindness Rocks" Theme for the school year
The Kindness Rocks Project (www.thekindnessrocksproject.com) was "created to spread inspiration and motivation for unsuspecting recipients through random inspirational rocks dropped along the way" and we wanted to incorporate this idea into the theme for the new school year. Students will have the opportunity to decorate rocks at the Welcome Picnic and then take them home or leave them to decorate the school. We have also ordered "Kindness Rocks" spirit bracelets for the all the students and staff, as well as other events throughout the school year.

  • Coordinator Reports

    • Nature Nook: We need a new co-coordinator to serve with Jen McNair as Donna Hegge is stepping down. We are going to have a clean-up day for the Nook soon. We are going to see if the back gate to the Nature Nook can be unlocked when the school is not open so that volunteers can gain access to work back there on nights and weekends.

    • Communication Envelopes: Will begin on Wednesday, August 31 and a volunteer list will go out through Sign-up Genius for future dates

    • Nash Volunteer Crew: Background clearances are good for 5 years and the district office keeps the clearances for school volunteers on file. The school principals can verify a person's clearances through a Google doc.

    • We still need coordinators for Indoor Recess and the Silent Auction.

    • Open Forum Q&A
    • Exploring the idea of the Remind 101 app where parents can receive text messages with pertinent school information.

Thank you to Natalia Dello Buono and Talia Barrow for babysitting this evening!

Next Nash Home and School meeting will be held Wednesday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m.
