February 2013 Meeting Minutes

Home & School Minutes

February 13, 2013

Thanks to Caroline Casey and Ryan Schoppe for babysitting!!

Meeting was opened at 7:05pm.

Reviewed upcoming dates.

Principal's report - Mr. Martiello was unable to attend, but left notes:

New principal's secretary is Dana Koch. Stop by and say hello!

Clearer directions for e-communications went out on February 11th in Mr. Martiello's

e-mail.

Margarita's and Wendy's night - While Nash does get a "kick-back" from these events, they are more like social nights than fundraisers. The March-a-thon is an "active" fundraiser, in which the main purpose is to raise funds for Nash. 6th grade has its own set of fundraisers which are separate from Home & School - that money directly benefits the 6th grade class.

Envelopes - will start coming home again ONCE A MONTH or BI-MONTHLY starting

next school year. More info to follow.

6th grade communication - Going forward we will need a liason between 6th grade and Home & School so we do not have overlapping events.

Literacy correlate - Young Authors. Would like a parent on the correlate and have

more communication. Positive - having more authors coming to classrooms; kids

writing is up on the wall. There will not be a huge district conference this year. Each

school is working on their own year end event for the entire school with maybe a family

night attached to it.

Pre-registration - after hour events - RSVPs are helpful. Still open for drop ins,

especially for Nash parents. Vendor night is open to anybody to come in and shop.

That night we will try to block off the areas people should not be in. Yellow caution tape

or cones? We are looking for input or ideas for this issue.

Teacher's Representative - Miss Johnson

6th grade says thank you for books purchased for students. (Number of the Stars)

Triathlon - lost the grant that we had last year. Asking Home and Schools to help offset

costs with $250. Not sure if this will be yearly. The people who attended tonight voted

to approve the funds for this year.

Family fitness night - ones that have been successful have been in conjunction with

instruction during the day. Mrs. Hatch is working on getting a Zumba instructor for

children; looking for a Wednesday evening. Trying to work out schedule right now. Will

require home and school funds.

Treasurer's Report - Tiffanie Stanton

We are doing well so far this year. No big changes.

Previous Business -

Open Coordinator postions - Thanks to everyone who volunteered to take on new positions. We will post a list of what is open on Constant Contact.

New Business -

1.Breakfast with Mom/Dad - since the school is doing a breakfast week this year, we are

canceling our breakfasts with mom/dad.

  1. Facebook Group - We have started a closed Facebook Group! We will post Nash

happenings every week. All Nash families are welcome to be part of the goup. The link

to follow is https://www.facebook.com/groups/nashhomeandschool/ . Since this is a

closed goup you have to request to "join group".

  1. Chili Cook off - This years family social night that runs in conjunction with the Book

Fair will be a chili cook off! If you would like to sign up to bring in chili, please check out

the link in Constant Contact! Come by to taste and vote for your favorite chili in the

Nash cafeteria on March 1st (6:30 to 7:30). There will also be a table with water and

snacks for sale.

Open Forum Q&A -
Please spread the word for book fair and change challenge. We still need volunteers for book fair.

Box Tops and Labels are due on February 21st.

During drop off in the morning, can we have a mobile sign with where to stop to put up

to help parents know what is going on.

Picnic tables from class of 2012 are in and being put together as well as the benches

from a previous class, Mr. Heebner (Kulp principal), and one in remembrance of Skyler.

Spirit wear - last order before end of year. Try to get in an Olympic day order if we can

find out colors beforehand.

Any events that are spur of the moment are not in the newsletter. Correlates need to

get in touch with coordinator to be sure it gets in.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15.

Next meeting, Thursday, March 14th in the library at 7:00pm.
