Thank you to Wendy Fillgrove for providing refreshments!

Thank you to Holly Gardner and Kelly Kuhn for babysitting!

Meeting opened at 7:04 by Ishani Desai, President

Upcoming Dates were reviewed.

Speaker - Shelly Plumb, Harleysville Bookstore - Goal to have authors for every grade. Andy Myer will be here Jan 14 for 2nd and 3rd grades. Mike Lupica will be at Nash next month for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades (free of charge). We may work together with Harleysville Bookstore for a book fair.

Principal's Report - Mr. Martiello:

  1. School Safety - Community meeting was held on Jan 7 with Dr. Dietrich.
  2. Intruder drills - Have these drills currently twice a year, will increase. Have 6th grade practice the drill from the lunch room. Are there alternate routes if an exit is blocked? We do have an outside plan as well.
  3. AM & PM activities - Trying to give parents a window of time to come in for the activity. Should be a coordinator at the door to let the students in. Responsibility for both the coordinator and parent to be here at that time . Please don't let your student allow other students in. If you are late, your student will have to go through the office.
  4. Built in security measures from the renovations - We have many security cameras here. Also the double locked doors are an extra security precaution. Staff have intruder keys. Will lock any door behind them. Make sure kids know that if they are in the hall during an intruder alert, please tell them to go to the closest room with an adult. Line of sight to the parking lot is a great tool also for safety issues.
  5. Congratulations to Mrs. G - Mrs. G won the Superintendant's honor roll today! She was nominated by many of Nash's staff.
  6. Congratulations to Mrs. Sigler - Mrs. Sigler is retiring on February 8th.
  7. Recess - 32 degrees (real feel) is the rule of thumb for having indoor recess instead of outside. Please make sure students are dressed appropriately.

Teacher's Representative - Mrs. Caiola:

Student Council will have a fundraiser to help with those affected by Hurricane Sandy. More info will be coming out on Monday in e-communications.

Treasurer's Report - Tiffanie Stanton:

6th grade funds were spent - picnic tables (4) from last year which will be back behind the school; another class bought a bench for the playground with plaques. Also thanks to Colleen Duran and Stacie Johnson for the Holiday Shop and Breakfast with Frosty. We are still getting money from the walk-a-thon in matching donations. So far $10,417 has been brought in.

Previous Business:

Margarita's Fundraiser - This is set tentatively for Wednesday, February 6th so it is now a family night. We get 15% of food and beverage. They will also do silent auctions if we want to do this.

New Business:

  1. On-line meetings - We will send out a survey to see if anyone is interested in this. Comment that it can be cumbersome. Maybe have a training session once we figure it out.
  2. Board Positions for 2013-14 - The positions are always open. If you are interested in running for the board, please contact any of the current board members for information.
  3. Open committee positions - We have a list of coordinator positions that are currently open for next year. The list will be posted on Constant Contact. Winter Carnival is one of the activities open. It would be very helpful to have someone shadow Christine DiPippo and Stacey Day. March-a-thon is also open. Need a coordinator early in the year.
  4. Breakfast with Mom/Dad for this year - Is there an impact safety wise? Do we need to think about cancelling this event? Or can we change it up a little bit? Maybe have lunch with your kids, split by grade? We will talk it about before the next meeting to talk about how to fix the problems from last year. We can also talk about it with the safe & orderly correlate. We will have to make it so you cannot get in unless you pre-register. Could we have a safety committee of parents for extra eyes? Remind coordinators to have extra people on hand for eyes.
  5. Flyers Tickets update - We bought two games in the summer to try to pre-sell (then they went on strike). First game is supposed to be on the 19th as of now. We will get a refund on our January 17th game. We also have tickets for the March 28th game; Thursday, but it is the day before a day off. We have 10 tickets left; $50 per ticket. Info is on last Constant Contact.
  6. Activity Coordinator Reports
  7. Winter Carnival - We still need volunteers for this activity! Please sign up using the sign up genius which was linked to the last Constant Contact. There will also be a paper coming home. (Paper copies can go home if there are mass volunteers needed or trying to collect money)
  8. Science Night is on January 17th. Assembly during the school and family fun

night. The presentation will be different for both. Kids will be able to build a

motorized vehicle they can take home. Please RSVP through the form that

was brought home. They will be building with circuits, so please keep this in

mind when RSVPing.

  1. Vendor night - Made $800 last year for this year's 6th grade. Maybe we can

do it this year for next year's 6th grade. We need to get out a note to 5th

grade. Jenny Platt will take care of Vendor night.

Hydrogen Fuel car will be brought in next Monday (1/14) to Mrs. Crits 6th grade

class at 1:30. An Li is willing to bring the car back after school for other Nash

families to see the car as well.

Robotic competition - would have to be a parent run program. Program is called

"First?"

  1. All items from labels for education came in. 6 boxes full. Still have 1200

points left. Looking for recess bags or rolling cart. No expiration date on points.

Another contest in February, another in June. Boxtops brought in $1600.

Q&A - Can we have a police officer come in like we do with Fire Prevention week.

Maybe once or twice a year so the kids are not afraid when they see a police

officer. Maybe have a police officer walk through every once in a while on their

route. Are the kids talked to at school about gun safety? This should be done at home

mainly. If any comments that are brought to the school's attention they are talked

about. Single entry point is our best bet for safety (all eyes are on the main entry).

Meeting Adjourned at 8:25.
