Rain date for Olympic day on May 26
Triathlon will be held on May 30th
2015-2016 Home & School board elected for next year:
President - Laura Boquist
Vice President - Jenny Platt

Exiting board members: Karen Lindsay and Kelly Magee-Greene
Teacher Representative: Mrs. Hannig, reading specialist - summer reading discussed
Review of "Summer slide"- The result of non reading in the summer is a loss of reading skills and comprehension skills which were achieved during the school year.
This can be prevented by providing quick reading tasks that easily integrate into the day
Various summer reading plans were discussed including:
Six books over the course of the summer
20 minutes a day, the more minutes the better a child's success
Use of techonology with reading - Ex. "Play away" get the book as well as the book being read aloud and Audible.com
Parents to model reading, read to the child, use a vocab calendar, read recipes
Independent reading levels can help ensure the child is on their reading level, read aloud book can be used on a higher level
Summer reading incentive
Last summer was completing a star page, when student filled in the chart they were able to pick out a book

Should summer reading list be sent home?
No assigned reading over the summer
For grades 4 or 5 have chapter books or several picture books
Discussion regarding reading Olympic books, and include this as approved list - offer options for chapter and picture books, the student would make recommendations, can also listen to books - for student who may struggle
3 north Penn libraries are open during the summer - information will be sent through email
Literacy night
Literacy night was great for the children for to see their own work and for parents to see others' work
Talked about how to get more bulletin boards on the walls, especially in the longer hallways
Literacy night went well, speaker was well received and could be a good assembly for the younger kids.
North Penn art show, at end of May
Summer Market day on July 28th, truck comes at 5pm ordered due by 11 pm July 21st , can order any time after June
Yankee candle till end of June and Nash will get the 40% fundraiser
Clothing drive
Going on right now, continuing to May 21st
Volunteer and teacher appreciation luncheon tomorrow - Luau theme, ziti, wraps, kabobs
Open coordinator positions
A list will be sent home via Constant Contact, but some of the open positions are:
Envelopes, holiday shop, spirit wear, welcome events, mother/son event, basket silent auction
Discussion about placement of bulletin boards in order to provide additional info
Discussion digital signage to promote activities

Olympic day
Parents to be raptored; will have the band play inside
Tables will be set up in front of the office for opening ceremonies, will provide easier accesses if visitors need to have their ids run through the raptor system
Opening ceremonies to start at 10
Parent input forms
Parents are able to send in information regarding their student
Nash family survey
Due Monday 18th
Cursive- not taught through a formal curriculum, will be looked into. Several parents voiced strong feeling that cursive should be incorporated into the education and could be supplemented at home.
