Home and School Meeting Minutes - September 11, 2014

Reviewed Upcoming Dates:
10/23 - 10/31 Red Ribbon Week - encourage healthy lifestyles - suggestion to wear red one day
10/31 - Halloween Parade - have parade and festivities all in the afternoon, 45 minutes for parade and 45 minutes for festivities, Halloween parade will begin approximately 2pm

New business
Envelopes:
Will return to twice a month on Mondays starting on September 22, with a few exceptions in January, February and April due to days off on Monday. This schedule gives coordinators more time to provide information and gives a more balanced amount of information to parents. Mr. Martiello to send a reminder to teachers to send home envelopes on the same day as they are put in their mailboxes.

Envelopes include fliers for fundraiser, money return, for attendance. Information that is sent back needs to go back to the teacher not returned in the home and school envelope.

Lifetouch digital ID cards:

Different format. Background is related to pose. Orders can be done online, pay online and print out receipt to be handed in on picture day.

Brain POP:
Home and school pays for a yearly subscription, award winning and entertaining, 3-4 minutes videos which have quizzes

Family access - each family has access 24 hours a day for 12 months. Teachers will distribute fliers and give passwords out at Back to School night. Demonstration to be held at next month's meeting.

March-a-thon:
Information will be sent home on Wednesday. Children to "march" around the school, collect feet and participate in activities
Goal is for 100% participation. Incentives involving Mr. Martiello are proposed if the school reaches various marks.
60% dye his hair
70% riding a trike through the school for the day
80% bike with trike/scooter in Francis
90% principal sundae
100% work from the roof
Incentives and classroom prizes - top 3 classes or any class that will hit 100% participation

Other classroom incentive - pj day, decorate the teacher, teacher has an hour off and student, email Laura, Sue Zima or Maria Strohl with suggestions

Coordinator Reports:

Spirit order was in envelopes and will be in color, tye-dye will be offered, rainbow tye-dye is also offered

Fliers are to be sent to Shannon Snyder and Jenny Platt for board approval. They will then forward the flier onto the office for office approval.

Npage - Back to School night for NPAGE is Oct 9th, 7-9; Nov. 11 will be speaker night, March 14th will be March madness workshop

Indoor recess - request for supplies, including building games

Will have table at activities night to collect items, including crafting

Book fair

Jeff Kinney - Diary of a Wimpy Kid author will do a presentation at Nash on Nov. 6th. Thanks to Harleysville Book Store for sponsoring this author visit!!! Will have a preorder with signed copies of Mr. Kinney's book.

Harleysville has a quarterly book club for teachers to order and receive incentives - principal will send out information, teachers could put together list for wish lists for holiday

Spirit day - Discussion was held regarding updating spirit days. The following days are most popular: Fashion disaster, Beach, Hat - tied into Dr. Seuss typically, Nash, PJ

Teacher incentive - class with the most the teacher will get a $100 for supplies at the end of the year.

Giant - you can send in your information and we will enter it, or you can sign up on-line, can sign up for two schools if needed

6th grade is doing kids stuff books, hoagies at activity night, selling coupon cards for $10; 9-20 car wash

Activity night, Friday 6:30 to 8:30 - different local organizations as well as school activities will be promoting their activities

Directory - Will put link on how to find directory on the facebook page and home and school page once the new one comes out

Principal Report:

Bus and traffic feedback - Generally things are moving well. Mr. Martiello to monitor mid-day kindergarten drop off

Newsletter feedback - information is more school based, Pages - Apple application, e-communications and food services links with information on how to make payments, include art and student work

Back to School Night will be Tuesday night with a shortened introduction and send to classroom more quickly

Mrs. Dillon will be retiring with her last day on Sept 12th

Next meeting Oct 9, 2014 in the Library at 7pm
